Community Services Manager's REPORT

The Manildra Men’s Shed is a subcommittee of the Manildra and District Improvement Association.

Their committee has made numerous attempts to secure funding and has recently been successful in obtaining a $10,000.00 Community Support Grant with Australia Post.

The Committee will use this to help fund the construction of a men’s shed but will need to raise more to complete the building and connect utilities.

Council’s Donation Policy provides for assistance to Men’s Sheds as follows;

For all requests for assistance from Men’s Sheds that have not previously secured more than minor assistance from Council, Council will:

1.   Consider making donations of up to $1,500.00 to assist with establishment costs

2.   Consider loaning funds to assist with establishment costs

3.   Consider waiving fees and charges

4.   Provide assistance in identifying grant opportunities

5.   Provide limited assistance in writing Grant Applications

6.   Consider requests to use Council owned buildings at favorable rates

7.   Assisting them in lobbying for the support of other organisations

If Council provided $1500.00 seed funding to the Manildra Men’s Shed project this plus the Community Support grant and a further $4,000 promised in donations would enable the committee to get the shed to completion stage.

Community Services Manager's REPORT

Local health professionals and a team of passionate voluntary workers were pleased to have over 250 people attend the depression and anxiety forum at Canowindra High School on the 30 October.

Angry Anderson addressed the crowd for over an hour and remained after the meeting to talk with locals for a further two hours.

Feed back from the session has been very positive with most participants indicating they will be more ready to ask for assistance when things get too much and some participants at the meeting have already made contact with health professionals to obtain help.

Council supported this event through a $500.00 donation and this was greatly appreciated by the organisers.
